John Holman is Director of the recently opened National Science Learning Centre, at the University of York, where this seminar will take place.
Robin Millar is Professor of Science Education in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of York. He taught science and physics for 8 years in three secondary schools before moving to York in 1982. He has extensive experience of initial and in-service education of science teachers, research in science education, and curriculum development. He was a member of the central team for Salters’ Science, and of the Advisory Committee for Salters Horners Advanced Physics. He played a leading role in developing the innovative AS-level course Science for Public Understanding, and the major new GCSE course Twenty First Century Science. His research interests include concept learning in science, the role of practical work, and the implications of scientific literacy for teaching and assessment. He is author of several books, and over 80 journal articles and book chapters on science education. He is currently a member of the Science Expert Group for the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
