This leadership conference is organised jointly by the British Council and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC). It will examine and contribute to current thinking and best practice in the areas of coporate governance and corporate citizenship. In particular it will focus on the place of leadership in corporate citizenship, within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). The conference will provide an overview of the role of the private sector in NEPAD. It will: - examine how leadership within government and business can make a difference to the success of the NEPAD programme
- provide a snapshot of these important issues facing the modern corporation and the entrepreneur in society
- consider the issues they raise for government and wider stakeholders
- examine how to measure company performance in the field of corporate citizenship
- develop a framework for action within companies, parastatals and small to medium-sized organisations
- look at steps that government and business need to take together to improve the enabling environment for business.
The conference will provide an opportunity for participants: - to examine current thinking and best practice in the areas of corporate governance and corporate social responsibility in Africa
- to look at the implications of new guidelines for corporate citizenship .
At the heart of the corporate citizenship challenge is leadership: leadership on values and what they mean for business, leadership in setting up the appropriate policies for a company and the internal education and training required to make them work, and how to measure and report on progress. The conference will therefore place emphasis on developing the leadership skills needed to drive new policies and make them work. |
