An interactive seminar for decision-makers who wish to realize the potential of sport, through partnership working, to contribute to wider social agendas of social inclusion and community regeneration. Participants will work in plenary sessions, small groups and individually to develop strategic and action plans which they can implement on their return to their own organizations. Such strategies and plans will be based on the acknowledgement of both the potential of sport to address such issues and the need to adopt new ways of working to ensure suitable safeguards and to provide programmes based on strong ethical bases. Through a mixture of presentations by experts, workshops and more free-ranging discussions the seminar will provide a deeper understanding of:
- the potential of sport to contribute to policies of social inclusion and the development of active and responsible citizenship
- the possible barriers to the achievement of sporting equity and potential solutions
- the challenges of adopting appropriate ways of working to achieve the full potential of sport
- examples of best practice in the planning and delivery of sport to maximize its contribution to polices of social inclusion and the development of social citizenship.
- Increased awareness and understanding of the relevance of these issues to participants’ work environments
- the establishment of an international network and the sharing of best practice
- a deeper relationship with the principal partners in the Dreams + Teams project.
The seminar is relevant to decision-makers in organizations who seek to realize the wider social potential of sport and who desire to work in partnership with other agencies (for example, education, youth services, community development agencies) to address issues of social inclusion, social citizenship and community regeneration.
