Buidling on Dreams and Teams
National sustainability and international linking

Loughborough, 29 June to 4 July 2003
Building on the success of last year’s seminar at the Reebok Stadium, this year’s event aims to examine best practice and share experience among the project teams. It will launch the next phase of the Dreams and Teams project with a strong emphasis on making sure the project is sustainable in each country and building links between young leaders.

The seminar is designed to be interactive and is for Dreams and Teams project and link leaders who are using sport as a tool to develop young citizens and leaders. Participants will work in plenary sessions, small groups and individually to consolidate achievements to date and develop action plans for sustainability, growth and international education links. The main themes of the seminar include:

  • development support: sharing best practice, building on strengths
  • developing people: including leadership and training needs
  • developing and implementing the award programme
  • planning the Global Sports Festival: including public relations and sponsorship
  • developing links between young people in their country and the UK.

Pre-conference task
Participants will be asked to prepare and present a ‘visual’ progress report on their Dreams and Teams programme and to share good practice ideas with other delegates.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE
The seminar is relevant to Dreams and Teams project leaders from British Council overseas offices in partnership with their link leader. The person from the  partner organisation is responsible for establishing and maintaining links between young people in their country and young people in a specialist sports college in the UK.

Those attending will participate actively in peer review, group work and presentations to other seminar participants. Participants ought ideally to be decision-makers in organisations that are partners in the Dreams and Teams project, although in exceptional cases others may also be considered.
