What is being done in schools and how successful this is in improving the learners’ experience is an international concern. Accountability models have been created using a range of developmental tools; monitoring, accountability inspection, school/teacher self-evaluation and development.
This seminar attempts to understand such systems and structures in their different contexts, offers critical comment on successes and weaknesses and provides ideas for development in different countries. There will be practical sessions exploring ideas for both school self-review and individual teacher performance review. Our aim is to move beyond systems and structures to the impact of review in the classroom on the teacher and the learner. A common understanding and a practical interpretation of crucial terms and processes in raising standards will emerge during the seminar and individual delegates will be assisted to adapt these into their national contexts.
Participants will have the opportunity to understand other cultures, challenges, opportunities and priorities. Globalisation has brought about the opportunity to share practices across continents and has highlighted the crucial role education plays in enabling communities to understand the differing visions, ethos and values of other countries. In addition to presentations and workshops from the seminar team, there will be contributions from experts in the fields of school self-review and developmental inspection as well as visits to both primary and secondary schools. The seminar will be interactive, with the opportunity for contributions from delegates, particularly in the workshop sessions.
