Gavin has worked in education for the past 16 years, as a teacher, materials developer, IT manager and web/user interface designer.
His blend of pedagogical and technical skills has taken him around the world - primarily for the International House World Organisation, but also for the British Council and other entities - helping them to bridge the gap between their training and teaching portfolio and their technical needs.
Until the end of 2003 he held two posts: the first as Head of the New Technologies Department at International House Barcelona, which included the design and maintenance of their suite of websites, as well as teacher training in ICT both as part of their CELTA and DELTA courses and their programme of in-house training. His second post was as Lead Developer for the online training centre Net Languages - this work involved interface design, user testing, standardisation of learning objects (AICC and SCORM) and the management of a multi-cultural programming team of some 10 people.
Since 2003, he has c-run his own online training and development consultancy, The Consultants-E, where he is Director of Projects. Apart from his work with the Consultants-E, he is the web manager for a range of organisations including: The Language Key, IH Spain, Quantum Theatre, Richmond Publishing, IATEFL TTEdSIG...
He has published a book with Cambridge University Press: The Internet & The Language Classroom, and is currently Coordinator and editor of the IATEFL Learning Technologies SIG Newsletter, moderator of the IATEFL-PAL list and web manager for the IATEFL PAL group as well as the ELT Management and Global Issues SIGs. He is working on a new book with his colleague Nicky Hockly, on online teaching and learning.
