Parents and families are by far the most important influences on children’s lives. When schools and families work together, children do better. Parents have a crucial role to play in helping children to achieve, and in building a generation of confident and ambitious young people.
Parents’ views provide an essential element of the decision-making process at school, local and national levels. Parents need to be confident that their views will be heard and taken seriously in decisions that affect them.
Effective schools and education systems recognise that successful parental involvement, of all parents, depends on building the interdependence and strength of the three-way partnership amongst parents, their children and the school.
This seminar provides participants with the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas as well as learn about parental involvement in Scottish education. They will be asked to select issues for discussion in advance, and to actively contribute to sessions during the seminar.
Time is allocated for delegates to visit a range of relevant Scottish organisations.
The seminar provides an effective multi-national forum to discuss:
- common issues and goals
- the drivers for change
- indicators and evaluation of the improvements and impact of better parental involvement.
The seminar provides a unique opportunity for those engaged in delivering and improving policy on parental involvement to explore international models of effective partnership among parents, their children and the school.
We welcome applications from any country.
