Jane Weeks is a museum consultant specialising in strategic planning, project management and income generation. She has worked with large national museums and small independently-run collections both in the UK and abroad. Clients include the Museums Association, the British Council, University College London, the National Museum of Bulgaria, and the National Museum of Bahrain. She is chairman of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Committee for the South East, and is a former Board Member of the UK committee of the International Council of Museums.
Jane trained as an archaeologist, graduating from the University of Southampton before undertaking research in nautical archaeology at the University of Bristol. Following maritime research projects in Italy, Germany, and Poland, she worked in the Museum of London. In 1987, she was appointed Press Officer at the National Maritime Museum, later becoming Marketing Manager. In 1990, she took on the new role of Manager at the Royal Greenwich Observatory (formerly the Old Royal Observatory), the home of the Meridian Line. In 1993, following a major refurbishment, the RGO won the Museum of the Year award for best scientific displays and the Europa Nostra prize for architectural refurbishment.
Professor Peter Stone is director of the International Centre for Cultural and Heritage Studies at Newcastle University, a post he has held since 2001. After graduating from the University of Stirling and completing a doctorate at the University of Southampton on teaching the past, he joined English Heritage, the English cultural heritage agency, and spent some time working at the World Heritage site of Stonehenge. He subsequently worked as a consultant and advisor on heritage education before joining the University of Newcastle in 1997. He is Honorary Chief Executive of the World Archaeological Congress, and is currently a member of the Culture Committee of the UK National Commission for UNESCO, a member of the National Archaeology Panel of the National Trust and Chair of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site Management Plan Committee.
