European Young Lawyers Scheme

Are you a European lawyer under the age of 35?

Our scheme offers you the opportunity to:

  • learn about law and legal issues in Scotland
  • meet and work with Scottish legal professionals
  • gain academic and practical training
  • share the experience with other young lawyers from Europe
  • live in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, for six months.

Each year we bring a group of young lawyers from Europe to Scotland to spend two months at each of the following:

  • the Faculty of Law at Edinburgh University
  • legal offices in Edinburgh or Glasgow
  • the Faculty of Advocates, which is the Scottish Bar.

Visits are also arranged to other courts, including the Industrial Tribunals for Scotland and the prosecution services.

In addition, there is an opportunity to meet up with members of the London European Young Lawyers programme during a week long study visit to Belfast. The programme focuses on legal issues distinctive to Northern Ireland.
