How employers benefit from IAESTE

Mubbasher Khanzada, an MBA graduate from Strathclyde first encountered the IAESTE programme as a student in Pakistan. As a IAESTE trainee he completed a three month placement with an oil and gas company in Tajikistan.

Now, as Director of Welltime Ltd – an IT start up business, he was keen to become involved as an employer. He knew that his company would benefit from IAESTE trainees as they are highly motivated, hand-picked and resourceful.

The programme proved such a success for Welltime Ltd that three trainees on short term placements have been recruited in the last two years. Mubbasher said:

'Without a doubt one of the biggest benefits of the IAESTE scheme is the high quality of the students. IAESTE students may not necessarily have a great amount of on the job experience but they have the necessary qualifications and training to get the job done.

'They bring a fresh perspective that is innovative. I would give experience for innovation anyday!

'With an IAESTE student, you have the potential to create a great ambassador for your business, one that can promote you and your business on the international stage. Before you know it your sales are increasing and your numbers are up!’

One of the strengths of the IAESTE programme is the strong relationships that are developed. Mubbasher is still in contact with all three students who have gone on to complete their further education in different European institutions.

He hopes that in the future they will continue to be ambassadors for Welltime, wherever their future careers take them. Having been an IAESTE trainee, Mubbasher is well aware of the opportunities and benefits it offers for both students and employers. He said:

'From a personal point of view, I know the importance for students to gain experience to put on their CV and international experience is particularly sought after. Only since arriving in the UK from Pakistan have I discovered the subtle cultural differences that are often erroneously portrayed in the world media.

'Through IAESTE, we are creating students with an open mind, allowing them to experience things for themselves and develop a mutual understanding and harmony across nations.'
