Sang fur the Wandert
Janet Paisley
Warld tirled atween twa hauns,
the furst keek at yon wee inch
shoved apairt, alane, aywis
thon heid dookit in cauld watter,
body scaured wi crookit burns,
ben rookit glens timmed fu
an drookit, gress greenin a back
skelpit wi smirr, ay scourin the lift
fur muin or staur tae licht the yird,
licht oan lost bairns whauraboots,
mind thaim whaur hame is. Prood,

sair prood, yon’s a banshee steered,
stushie ay gaun, clanjamfrie stane
tae bide oan, jalousin warum
smit wi saun, a drouth tae bleeze
in braw clouts, brichter claes, a haun
tae haud, haudit oot, haudin oot,
hingin oan tae the boat fetches
weans fae ower the watter,
fetches up word, fowk bletherin
douce mither tongues saut wi notions,
a lowe in the bluid sparkit aff.

It’s aw grist, a rare steer birled
roon like a peerie, yin warld,
yin auld hert. Here’s tae belang,
whaur a dreich blaw kin dicht aff
the stoor o stravaigin, snaw
as wid thaw tae the come oan ben.
It’s nae faur tae ony herth yit,
kennlin split, broth het in the pat,
yon knock whit chaps quate time,
a draw, dram gowden in the gless,
thon door ay aff the sneck.
