The British Council connects people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and builds lasting relationships between the UK and other countries.
We have offices in over a 100 countries, over 7,000 staff worldwide and a turnover of £430 million.
We manage a wide range of activity in the arts and creative industries, education and training, English language teaching, governance, law and human rights, information and knowledge, science and technology.
We work with a range of partners within and outwith the UK, from public and private sectors to non-governmental organisations. We constantly seek new partnerships both in the UK and worldwide.
We are a non-departmental public body. We receive a grant-in-aid from the UK Government through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, but we operate independently.
In Scotland, we consult with an advisory committee to inform the areas of work we are involved in. View the members of the committee.
