Sikander Sabeer - Motivations & Expectations

Motivation to participate in the British Council Rio Delegation

Networking
I wish to use this opportunity to collaborate with young people from all over the world. This friendship may achieve a workable, practical, concrete solution for most environmental problems. This International arena would provide us with an opportunity to share our views on climate change with other youth delegates.

To raise awareness about the projects that are conducted in Sri Lanka.
During the major side event and youth blast I am planning to raise awareness about the work and the projects that were conducted during the course of the campaign for Rio+20 and beyond. I will one of the panellists of the British Council/UNEP side event, will be sharing my thoughts on the National/ Member State side event of Sri Lanka on "National Road to Rio+20 Campaign Sri Lanka." Meanwhile I will be attending a Asia Youth Strategic plenary for Rio+20 as a Panellist at Youth Blast, and will be conducting a 90 mins workshop at Youth Blast on "Design Your Future" , Meanwhile I will be one the key youth facilitator for the Working Group on Economy and will be making some interventions at Youth Blast and some times at Prepcomm III, any more opportunities are on the pipeline....

To gain more knowledge on Climate Sustainability and International Negotiations of the Historical Summit.
I would like to attend several workshops/side vents conducted by inspirational
youth and climate experts. I would like to attend the UNCSD sessions which are
open for public. I would like to share the knowledge we gain with other youth
in the country.

Expectations for Rio+20

Decisions made by global leaders will have global consequences.
We need universal norms. No states can exist alone. As a team we can arise together for a real change. This may have a huge impact on decision makers. Youth are here...at the Rio+20 Earth Summit and we are making a difference. We are dynamic, diverse yet we are working together as a unified voice for change, A Real Change! We are the future of the world.

To get involved with the government in decision making process
As youth we have a huge responsibility to work closely with government in decision making process. We believe this conference will give us the key aspects of policy formulation, which we hope to push and incorporate in Sri Lanka's Youth Position. Although Sri Lanka doesn't contribute to global warming, the beautiful island nations do suffer from the consequences from it. As youth we do have a duty towards our country that we should accomplish. Meanwhile my name has been nominated for National Delegation which is headed by HE President of Sri Lanka.
