British Council Researcher Links

Researcher Links

International research collaboration is essential for the global knowledge economy, and it has been shown that internationally mobile researchers tend to be more productive. Furthermore, a shared research interest can help to build trust and relationships between people from very different backgrounds and cultures.

In response to this, and taking advantage of its position as an intercultural relations organisation with global expertise in higher education, the British Council is launching the British Council Researcher Links initiative, in partnership with various research and higher education organisations from around the world.

A 'call to action' was issued on June 12 for leading researchers to propose themes for bilateral workshops to be held in one of the partner countries (see below) that will bring together early career researchers to discuss their research and start to build international relationships.

The call for proposals has now closed, and we will not be accepting any further applications. Successful  workshops will be listed here from September onwards with instructions on how to apply to be a participant. Please note that there will be another call for workshop proposals in 2014, and all information will be available here nearer to the time. Should you have any questions, please contact uk-researcherlinks@britishcouncil.org

In the next few months we will issue a call for Travel Grant proposals, where early-career researchers will be financially supported to undertake placements in research institutions abroad. Further details will be released here nearer to the time. To automatically receive funding updates from Researcher Links and other UK opportunities, please sign up to the EURAXESS UK newsletter here.

At this stage the partner countries are (follow links to specific country web pages): Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Morocco, Egypt, Qatar, South Africa, Nigeria, Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Vietnam and Bangladesh. In future rounds the countries involved may well change, and so it is advisable that you check this page in the future for further information.
