BIRAX Fellowship Scheme

19 February 2013

The Britain-Israel Research and Academic Exchange Partnership Programme (BIRAX) Regenerative Medicine Initiative has just announced a new fellowship scheme aimed primarily, although not exclusively, at early career researchers.

Jointly run by the British Embassy, the British Council and Israel, BIRAX Regenerative Medicine Initiative is a 5 year programme that aims to deepen academic connections between Britain and Israel in the field of regenerative medicine.

The new fellowship scheme will aim to seed and cement research partnerships, promote UK-Israeli scientific excellence, and offer exciting opportunities for early career researchers, by funding both short and long-term fellowships. The funding awards will allow scientists from the UK and Israel to undertake short and long term research visits in the opposite country. Through these visits, the fellows will develop new techniques and research methods not available in their resident laboratories, and will form contacts and collaborations in their host country. For the first year the fellowship scheme will focus on short-term visits of one to six months. This short-term approach is designed to be accessible to parents, and should open up opportunities to people who find family commitments prevent longer term visits.
