Funding Research

Research in the UK is funded by several sources, including government, industry and various charities. The main way in which the Government funds research is via the ‘dual support system’, where the Research Councils support specific research projects and programmes, and the Funding Councils give block grant funding to support research infrastructure and enable institutions to undertake ground-breaking research of their own choosing. Find out more here about the UK’s Research Councils, Funding Councils and one of the largest charitable trusts that funds research, the Wellcome Trust.
