In July 2006 and July 2007, we supported the Natural History Museum’s student summit on climate change. This year’s summit, which took place from 2-4 July, had a new focus, looking at Darwin’s ideas about evolution through natural selection and how they are relevant in today’s world. This event was the first in a series of three youth summits to take place at the Natural History Museum in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2009 the summit will examine the influence of Darwin's ideas within human society and culture, and in 2010, it will focus on progress made in meeting targets under the Convention on Biological Diversity for slowing the rate of global species extinction.
International Student Summit programme Information about the speakers
We provided an international element to the event by bringing around 60 students from around the world to London’s Natural History Museum. The summit was truly global in scale, with students coming from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Jordan, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Venezuela. They listened to leading scientists and experts, and had the opportunity to share their views with students from the UK.
