Partner Fair at a Contact Seminar
Anglo-Spanish Contact Seminars

Contact seminars with Spain
We do not have any centrally managed contact seminars scheduled for 200/10.  However if, for example, you are a local authority with a strategic civic or area partnership with Spain and you would be interested in co-ordinating your own forum for schools to meet and link up, we would be pleased to hear from you.  We can provide logistical guidance, an activity tool kit, and some funding. For more information please e-mail world.links@britishcouncil.org or phone 020 7389 4936.  See the following feature on a past seminar for further inspiration.

Anglo-Spanish contact seminar for secondary schools, Peñaranda de Duero, Castilla y Léon

Context
For the last 10 years, we have been working in partnership with the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science on the Bilingual Schools Project to introduce a bilingual, bi-cultural curriculum in 59 primary state schools across Spain. As these children move on to secondary level, we are committed to working with schools to maintain and develop their pupils’ ability and interest in English.

Contact seminar
Teachers of Spanish from 16 secondary schools in England applied to take part in this contact seminar in Spain to meet colleagues from Spanish secondary schools and participate in a series of formal and informal sessions which provided opportunity for:

Establishing a link with a Spanish school
Exploring possibilities for collaborative activities between pupils and staff and developing action plans
Continuing professional development
Visiting a Spanish school
Sharing best practice in modern languages teaching and methodology
Exploring and discussing approaches to bilingual teaching

Outcomes of seminars
All 32 schools from England and Spain found a partner with whom to work, and by the end of the seminar presented details of their provisional plans for taking their new link forward. Download a summary of these action plans, and take a look at a selection of photos from the event.
