SSAT/DCSF/Hanban summer camps

This course is a two centre language learning and cultural visit for students from all levels organised jointly by the SSAT Confucius Institute in the UK and Hanban in China and supported by the DCSF. Participants need not have studied any Chinese prior to the visit but participating schools must demonstrate a commitment to introducing Chinese. The course will also cater for those students who have started learning Chinese and are looking to develop their language skill further.

The course dates are 15th July  – 27th July with flights departing from the UK on/around 14th July. The programme includes:

A 12 day visit
Pre-departure day in a school offering introductory Mandarin and cultural guidance
Visits to Beijing for a four day cultural programme and a province (Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shaanxi or Shandong)
20 hours of Chinese language teaching
Visits to historical and cultural places of interest in Beijing and provinces
Home visit (or home stay up to 3 nights) providing opportunities for participants to meet Chinese students and families and build relationships with them

During the visit, participating schools will be expected to enter their students for the ASDAN internationalism award, the costs of which will be covered by the DCSF. This certification accredits activities involved in overseas school visits and is awarded on submission of a portfolio of project work. More details will be available on acceptance onto the visit.

Details of last year’s camps can be found on the SSAT Chinese Networks site www.schoolsnetwork.org.uk/chinese
