HOW CAN I REGISTER FOR IELTS?

You can register for IELTS by following these steps:

1.Select your test details

Go to our online registration website. Select Saudi Arabia, a test location, date and module.

2.Complete your application form

Complete the online application form. You will receive acknowledgment of your application by email.

If you pay the IELTS test fee online, you will also receive confirmation of payment at this stage.

3.Pay for your test

The IELTS test fee is SAR 850.

Note: Effective 1 October 2013. Price will be SAR 900.

Payment methods:


Online

You can pay online with Visa or MasterCard. Follow the instructions for online payment on our IELTS online registration website.

Cash
We accept cash payments at all British Council centres in KSA.

Draft cheque
You may also pay for your test by draft cheque from a local Saudi bank made payable to 'The British Council'.
Please note that we cannot accept personal cheques or payment directly into a British Council bank account.

Completing your application

To complete your application, you must submit all supporting documents to the British Council centre where you applied for IELTS, within five working days of your payment.

You may bring the documents to the British Council in person, or send them by courier.

Please do not send cash by courier. Please follow the instructions below, according to your payment method.

If you have paid the IELTS test fee online (credit card):

Please submit the following documents:

  • A copy of the email 'IELTS Application Summary and Payment Confirmation'.
  • Two colour photographs
  • Copy of identity document

Please read the requirements for supporting documents below carefully.

If you do not provide the correct supporting documents within five working days of your payment, your application will be rejected and your test fee will be partially refunded (an administration charge of SAR 210 will be deducted).

If you have not yet paid the IELTS test fee:

Please submit the following documents and payment:

  • A copy of the email 'IELTS Application Summary'.
  • Two colour photographs •Copy of identity document
  • Payment: You may pay your IELTS test fee in cash, or by cheque. Please see payment instructions below.

4.Confirmation of your test

When the British Council receives your payment, you will receive another email confirming your registration.       

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?

ID

You must use one of the ID documents below to register for IELTS:

Saudi nationals: Passport or Saudi National ID (بطاقة الأحوال)

Non-Saudi nationals: Passport or Iqama

You must send a clear copy of the same ID with your application - do not send the original ID document.

You must bring the same ID (the original, not a copy) to your IELTS written and speaking test.

If you do not you will not be allowed to take your IELTS test and your test fee will not be refunded or your test date transferred.

You must contact your test centre no later than five working days before your first test date (this may be your speaking or written test) if you know you cannot produce the same ID on the test day.

We cannot make any exceptions to ID rules.

Photographs

Please include two colour passport-sized photographs with your application. The photographs must:

  • be in colour
  • be identical
  • be no more than 6 months old
  • be taken against a plain background so that features are clearly distinguishable
  • be undamaged
  • be in sharp focus and clear
  • be print quality of professional standard
  • be a close-up of the head and shoulders
  • show the candidate looking straight at the camera
  • show the candidate with a neutral expression
  • show the candidate with the mouth closed
  • show the candidate with eyes open and clearly visible
  • show the candidate without glasses
  • not show any shadows
  • not show anything covering the face, the outlines of the eyes, nose or mouth

Please write your full name on the reverse of each photograph and sign it.

WHY WILL YOU TAKE MY PHOTOGRAPH AND FINGERPRINT SCAN ON TEST DAY?

We will take your photograph and finger print on test day as a security measure. The photograph taken on test day will appear on your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF).

CAN I CANCEL OR TRANSFER MY TEST DATE?

If you want to cancel your IELTS registration, you must contact us in writing more than 35 days before the date of your written test. You will then receive a refund of the test fee.

If you want to transfer your test date, you must contact us in writing more than 35 days before the date of your written test.

An administration fee of SAR 210 will be charged for all refunds and transfers.

Exceptional Circumstances

To cancel your registration or transfer your test date after five weeks (35 days) before the date of your written test, you must demonstrate that your ability to take the test has been affected by one of the following;  

  • Serious illness e.g. hospital admission or serious injury (does not include minor illnesses such as a cold)
  • Loss of an immediate family member
  • Hardship / trauma, victim of crime, victim of a traffic accident
  • Military service

Your test centre must receive your application for cancellation or transfer of registration within 5 working days of your written test date, along with evidence (including an official certified report) of the exceptional circumstances (original documents, not copies).

WHAT ARRANGEMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR CANDIDATES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?
Candidates requiring special arrangements due to temporary or long-term disability, such as hearing/sight impairment, dyslexia or speech impediment must give three months notice to the British Council so that appropriate guidance and approval can be obtained from the IELTS Special Circumstances Unit.
HOW WILL I GET MY RESULTS?

Getting your results

You will receive one Test Report Form (TRF) only. You can collect your TRF from the British Council, or we can send your TRF to you by secure courier service (courier charges apply). We will only send your TRF by courier if you request this by completing a mailing form. The mailing form is available for download.

TRF courier charges: within Saudi Arabia SAR 50, international SAR 150 (these rates apply only if you pay in advance at a British Council Centre).

Your results will be available 13 days after the test date. Where day 13 is a Thursday or public holiday, results will be available on the next working day.

Preview your results online

You can preview your results at our website Take IELTS - Preview your results.
You will need your candidate number and ID number.

We cannot give you your results by email, phone or fax.

Sending IELTS results to institutions

We provide up to five electronic or hard copy TRFs to the Recognising Organisations named in your application within one month of the result date, at no additional charge (courier charges apply for hard copy TRFs).

One month after your result date, you can request additional electronic or hard copy TRFs. For hard copy TRFs there will be a charge of SAR 60 per TRF (plus courier charges)

Enquiry on Results (EOR)

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be remarked; this is called an Enquiry on Results. You need to apply at the centre where you booked your test no later than six weeks after the test date. You can choose which parts of the test you want to have re-marked. The fee for this service is SAR 500.

This fee will be refunded if your score changes for any part of the test. Enquiries on Results usually take between six to eight weeks.
