Business English and IELTS Preparation course

Business English
If you need to improve the English skills of your staff, we can offer a range of Business English courses and exams.

Why study Business English?
English is the language of global business, communications and technology, so make sure you can compete in today’s international job market by improving your Business English skills. A Business English course gives you specific skills that are relevant in the workplace. We offer a wide range of courses that are designed to help you become familiar with business vocabulary and grammar, and provide you with skills to help you communicate in the workplace.

What does a Business English course offer?
We offer Business English courses at a range of levels. These courses will help you to develop your English communication skills in the context of the workplace. You will cover areas that will help you to:

  • socialise in business situations with confidence
  • take part in negotiations
  • use effective telephoning strategies
  • entertain guests
  • take part in international meetings
  • produce and deliver short presentations
  • write effective business correspondence and documents

Where are English for Business courses available?
These courses are on offer in our teaching centres in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar.

IELTS preparation course
You may need IELTS for immigration or further study abroad. The high standard required by this internationally recognised qualification means that the exam is demanding but your achievement in gaining a good grade will be widely and highly respected. Our preparation course helps you achieve the best mark possible.

The course focuses on exam preparation and not language acquisition and therefore does not concentrate on raising the level of candidates' English. Experience shows that candidates who are prepared for the format of this examination and have the necessary skills and strategies do better than those who go in unprepared.

The lessons involve practising parts of past exam papers. They work on all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), delivered as an integrated whole along with extensive vocabulary and grammar support. This means you will learn in a natural way, as well as learning techniques that help you perform well in exams. The British Council currently offers an 18-hour course that covers the following:

  • skills and sub-skills needed for efficient reading, listening and writing
  • strategies for maximising potential in all four modules (speaking, reading, listening and writing)
  • feedback from experienced teachers of IELTS (please note that IELTS band scores cannot be given)
  • the formalities required for filling out the IELTS answer sheets

If you want to register for the IELTS preparation course, you will need to take our placement test and demonstrate the minimum level of English language competency of Pre-intermediate to enter a preparation course. Students who have documents showing an IELTS score of 4.5 or above, awarded in the last two years, can register without a placement test.

Where can I take this course?
The course is on offer at our teaching centres. If you would like more information about dates and fees, please visit our centres at Riyadh, Jeddah or Al Khobar.
