Are you fascinated by the idea of a human being travelling to Mars? Then welcome to our Cafe Scientifique!
Mars has been the subject of speculation about life in our Solar system for generations, and despite images from rovers that show a cold, desolate planet, scientists still wonder whether life might exist there even today.
Paul Roche, the leading British astronomer, director of the Faulkes Telescopes project will run the Cafe Scientifique, which will look at our modern view of Mars, and ask whether humans might one day walk on the surface of the Red Planet.
Could mankind colonise Mars? What sort of technology would be required, and how might the first settlements be developed?
But should we even think about such a mission, when there are so many things on Earth that would benefit from the money and scientific effort required to go to a distant planet?
