Enthusing young people with science

The British Council in Russia is launching a new multi-dimensional programme to help enthuse young people with science. Find out how you can get involved.

We have recently started exciting new projects whereby long-term educational links between the UK and Russia will be established and creative approaches to science education will be shared between Russian and British practitioners.

Our projects aim to foster enthusiasm for science and to develop extensive networks of young people – the scientists of the future - for the exchange of ideas and knowledge and the creation of new opportunities.

HOW THE PROGRAM CAME ABOUT

The British Council plays a major role in catalysing and sustaining scientific collaboration between students in the UK and overseas, and in demonstrating to young people overseas the creativity and innovation of UK science.

As part of this work a seminar entitled "engaging young people with science" was held in Moscow at the end of 2005 that brought together education experts and practitioners from Russia and the UK.

During the seminar it became clear that there are many opportunities for joint work based on the complementary strengths of the UK and Russian education systems. A series of science education projects were subsequently outlined, which aim to promote science and scientific collaboration amongst the young people of the two countries.

How science education in the UK is evolving

The British Government strongly believes that science is key for the UK to compete in the future global economy and hence that it is essential to persuade the brightest young people that a science career provides extensive opportunities and rewards. The Government’s ambition is to create an education and training environment that delivers the best in science teaching and learning at every stage. Find more...
