TEACH RUSSIAN IN THE UK

We would like to express our gratitude to those who applied for Foreign Language Assistants programme. The application process is now CLOSED and we no longer accept applications. This year we received an overwhelming amount of high quality applications. The selection process had therefore to be prolonged.  We will let you know the results of the selection on 12 May via e-mail.  

Have you ever wanted to teach abroad and improve your English? Can you think of classroom activities that would help students in the UK to improve their Russian language skills? If so, the Foreign Language Assistants programme might be for you.

Your role will be to work with the teacher in the classroom or on your own with small groups of students in order to help them gain confidence in your language. It is also a good chance for them to learn more about the culture in your country.

This year the British Council Russia will be enrolling up to 7 teachers to work as foreign language assistants in 2009 - 2010 academic year.

Who can participate and criteria for selection:

We are looking for young enthusiastic professionals with higher education diploma to work as assistant teachers in British school during 2009 – 2010 academic year.

Successful applicants should have:

  • motivation to work in the classroom and promote Russian language and culture
  • very good command of English
  • higher education diploma (preferably connected with foreign or Russian language and/or teaching)
  • some experience of teaching a foreign language or Russian as a foreign language is desirable but not essential

To apply for the position of language assistant, please complete the Application form and other relevant documents and return it to Ksenia Afanasyeva by post: Moscow, 109189, Nikoloyamskaya, 1, British Council by 4 May 2009.

The documents you need to submit:

1)Three copies of application form

2)Recent photo

3)Confidential reference (Please ask your referee to write you a reference letter and put it in a sealed envelope. Please forward us this sealed envelope without opening. If the referee does not speak English, s/he can provide the letter in Russian. You do not need to translate the letter)

4)Medical certificate (please ask your doctor to provide a description of your state of health on official certificate, we do not have a special form for you to fill in, however, this needs to be on a official paper with a stamp that your doctor can provide. Please provide the translation. You do not need to verify the translation)

5)3 copies of your passport (a page with your photo) (you do not need to notarise the copies)

6)CV (or resume) in English (we do not have any special requirements for this, as usual, please outline your education, work experience, skills and other information that you think will be useful to support your application)

Only successful candidates will need to provide police clearance certificates so please do not worry about this at the moment. We will notify you separately when it is required.
