British Council in cooperation with the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature is pleased to announce the new publication of “Songs of Innocence and of Experience” by William Blake – a cult English artist, poet and philosopher.
“…The book is unique – firstly, because for the first time in Russia Blake’s illuminations are reproduced in colour; and secondly, because all the translations in the book are new participants of Young Translators’ Seminar from Moscow, Petersburg, Cheliabinsk and Krasnoyarsk were reflecting on Blake’s texts, translating and discussing new translations. Best translation were included in the book. We hope that our readers will appreciate everything in the book – fascinating originals by Blake, new translations, introductions by Richard Holmes and Gregory Kruzhkov, and commentary notes by Sasha Dugdale”.
This publishing project is implemented as a part of the preparation work for William Blake's exhibition in Pushkin Fine Arts Museum – In autumn 2011 Blake’s art-works will be exhibited in Moscow for the first time in history.
British Council expresses gratitude to the Tate Gallery , William Blake Trust and King’s College, Cambridge, for providing facsimile reproductions and a permission to use them.
