British Council and the Centre for Contemporary Culture “GARAGE” are pleased to present 18 April, 19 pm a lecture by David Tremlett. The celebrated British artist is going to tell about his views on contemporary art and his future exhibition-performance planned in September. The burden of the lecture will be drawing attention to the monuments of Russian avant-garde.
The project was initiated by two Russian curators Tatiana Brodach and Oksana Kuprianova, and supported by Archnadzor and British Council

David Tremlett (1945) is one of the few contemporary artists whose main art form is wall painting. A sculptor by education, since the late 1970's he has been working with a clean cloth – space and walls’ material. He painted the walls of Palladian Villa, chapels and cathedrals of Europe, African ruins, as well as the interiors of Norman Foster and Todd Ando. In summer 2011 his large-scale paintings will appear on Tate Modern’s walls.
Tremlett’s exhibitions took place in the leading museums all around the world (MoMa, Tate, Stedelijk, Pompidou) – about 165 exhibitions since 1970. 10 catalogues and several albums with his works’ reproductions were published. In 1992, Tremlett was shortlisted in the most prestigious award in the field of art – the Turner Prize.
Since the late 1970s he has been creating wall drawings notably at the British Embassy in Berlin (his largest to date 16 x 46 meters) and the British Council Building in Nairobi.
