As preparation for delivering TKT Essentials our trainers passed through the British Council’s Trainer Development Course run by UK specialists and developed their professional training skills with the focus on delivery of the modern ELT methodology and approaches on which TKT Essentials Course is based.

Course Description

The full online course covers three core areas divided into a total of 33 units varying in length between 90 and 180 minutes.

1.Module 1. Language and background to language teaching/learning (18 units);

2.Module 2. Lesson planning/ and use of resources for language teaching (8 units);

3.Module 3. Managing the teaching and learning process (7 units).

It is delivered in two independent parts: part 1 - Module 1, Part 2 - Modules 2,3.

The materials for the TKTE course have been designed by the British Council team of authors to provide teachers with an introduction to the basic theory associated with a communicative approach to English language teaching. The course structure and its content are based on the syllabus of the Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) * which is quoted as ‘is an important stepping stone’ in teacher’s career’.

The trainees will:

•proactively explore communicative approaches to teaching various  language skills,

•define factors which influence on students learning and developments (goals, expectations, needs, learning styles, the implications for  motivation ).

•be equipped with different tools for classroom management, lesson planning, group and pair work;

•explore various types of assessment, approaches to selection of teaching resources and materials;

•learn about the impact of constructive and negative feedback on learning, ways of supporting trainees, giving feedback and doing reflective activities, etc.
