Providing teachers with new skills to introduce changes in English language teaching
Are you keen to develop a new approach to English Language teaching? Do you want to exchange ideas with colleagues across Russia and get support from ELT professionals in the UK? Find out how our INSETT project helps thousands of teachers in their professional development.

Why join INSETT?

The programme is teachers’ centred
The participants have access to the resources of the British Council centres and the project works of previous participants
The participants have opportunity to exchange ideas with their colleagues and to participate in the work of teachers’ Associations
The participants plan innovations themselves and can implement those in their local teaching situation
The key element of the programme - project work - facilitates your continuous development
In each region the programme is supported by the local educational authorities and after successful completion of cycle 1 and cycle 2 the teachers are awarded certificates which are valid for improving their professional category.

How is the project run?
The programme consists of a number of face-to-face seminars plus tutorials and feedback sessions.

There are two cycles of seminars:

Cycle  1                 Three or four intensive seminars (each 5-6 days long) spread through a year. The seminars are normally held during the school holidays. Three content strands are covered: ELT in Russian Educational Context, Methodology of ELT, and Project development. Teachers perform written assignments and design a project proposal suggesting the way to introduce the innovation in their classrooms.
Cycle 2  One seminar held after 8-9 month break where the teachers consolidate and present the results of their project work.

Project success
The project was initiated in 1996 in Krasnoyarsk. Later it was disseminated to three more regions. Now INSETT programme runs in 12 regions of Russia: Krasnoyarsk, Sochi, Omsk, Volgograd, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Nizhni Novgorod, Irkutsk, Tomsk, Samara, Yaroslavl, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don.

About 2000 teachers have been successfully trained in 12 regions. On average 80% of teachers improve their qualification categories and move in their careers. The teachers become teacher trainers, textbook authors, take part and win in regional and international competitions for teachers.
