We work together with our partner organisations in Russia to provide opportunities for young people from the UK to work as language assistants in Russian universities. We aim to improve both the language ability of the assistants and students in addition to expanding their cultural awareness.

Who is a language assistant?
Language assistants are young native English speakers, holding a university degree and interested in English language teaching abroad.

The British Council Russia launched “Language Assistants for Russian Universities” Programme in April 2005.

Posts in various Universities in Russia were offered to graduates of Russian Language Departments in Universities all over the UK.

Terms and Conditions of the programme

			The internship lasts for one academic year from 1 October to 30 June.
			The British Council provides Language Assistants (LAs) with a scholarship.
			The British Council arranges LAs arrival in Russia, as well as consultancy and support throughout the internship.
			LAs are entitled to teach classes of 8 – 15 students with the workload of 12-18 hours per week. The salary should be not less than 5000 RUB.
			Hosting universities are responsible for visa procurement for LAs and their registration in PVO.
			Hosting universities provide free accommodation for the whole duration of the internship.

Unfortunately this year the programme is suspended.
