The Hornby Trust, with the British Council, co-funds regional schools around the world for teachers of English.
The British Council Russia is organising a two-week Hornby Summer school from August 11 – 22, 2008.
This a two week intensive course for teachers of English involving participants from Russia and other countries. The language of instruction will be English.
The aim is to provide participants with ideas and practice in bringing technology into their EFL classrooms and to help other teachers in their local settings to modernise the teaching of English. The academic programme will look at the following areas:
- Web 2.0 tools (e.g. blogs, wikis, podcasts, etc.)
- Screen capture technology
- Virtual Learning Environments
- Planning and delivering technology teacher training
- Online communities and teacher development
The content will be refined by the course director and tutors to present sessions which are immediately transferable to participants’ local circumstances, providing them with a package of training sessions which look at various technology tools in the Web 2.0 area and their application in the classroom.
At the same time the content will cover e-networks, and setting up local and regional electronic teachers support and development networks using a variety of tools. This will allow the participants to get the training and support to a wider audience than their immediate surroundings and to set up a self-sustaining developmental community on the subject of the application of new technologies in the classroom.
We will select 25 – 30 participants and we are looking for applications from experienced, forward looking teachers and teacher trainers who have access to web-based technologies in their professional environments
English Language Teaching professionals interested in participating in this event are asked to complete an application form and return it to Olga Barnashova in the British Council Russia by 27th of June, 2008.
