Russia-UK young film-makers project

Two of the best known film schools in the world have been brought together by the British Council to make a series of documentaries about each others’ countries, trying to get under the skin and capture what makes that country’s heart beat.

2 teams of young Russian filmmakers from VGIK will spend three weeks in London with a crew from National Film and Television School ( NFTS) in Beaconsfield shooting a film about life in the UK, while 2 teams of NFTS students will shoot movies in Moscow under the tutorship of a VGIK production team.

Through the project the teams will learn about each others’ cinematic traditions, and the documentaries they make will be screened at film festivals in Autumn 2008, so that wider public can appreciate their work.

As part of the project the British Council will also donate a selection of UK films to VGIK, and arrange visits by UK producers and directors to discuss the UK film industry. There will be an opportunity for industry professionals to meet and discuss joint projects at the Russian Film Festival in London in September 2008.
