RCUK National Science & Engineering week - awards scheme for 2010 Are you a Researcher or PhD student looking to give public engagement a try for the first time? If you are funded by one of the seven Research Councils, then funds of up to £2,000 are available per project to support your public engagement activities during National Science & Engineering Week 2010. Here you can engage public and schools audiences with issues relating to science and engineering. Application forms and guidelines for the scheme are available online. Closing date: 5pm Monday 2 November 2009.
Institute of Physics' Public Engagement Grant Scheme 2010 If you have a fantastic idea for making physics accessible. or want to reach a wider audience and need some support to make your outreach activity happen, you can apply for a Public Engagement Grant from the Institute of Physics. They are worth up to £1000 and aim to support physics-based public outreach activities throughout 2010. Application forms and guidelines for the scheme are available online. PhD Studentship in Science Communication (HLS/PHD) The University of the West of England are seeking a motivated natural science/social science/science communication graduate to undertake an innovative interdisciplinary research project focusing on science communication to start in January 2010. The studentship is available from January 2010 for a period of 3-years, subject to satisfactory progress. Candidates should propose an area for PhD study combining a science communication perspective (working with the Science Communication Unit at UWE http://scu.uwe.ac.uk/) and one of the following research areas: Appearance Research, Biomedical and Bio-sensing Sciences, Health and Well-Being of Children. Ingenious - call for proposals Ingenious is a grants scheme that funds interesting and thought-provoking activities that help engineers to share their expertise and enthusiasm for engineering with the wider public. It aims to:Inspire creative public engagement with engineering projects, stimulate engineers to share their stories, passion and expertise with wider audiences, develop engineers’ communication skills and create debate. Funding from £3,000 to £30,000 is available for projects that meet the criteria of the two funding streams: 'Public Engagement Grants', 'Public Engagement Fellowships'. The University of the West of England Masterclass in Science Communication 22-26 February 2010 - Bristol The Science Communication Unit at the University of the West of England has announced the next instalment of their annual Masterclass in Science Communication. The Masterclass is a five-day intensive course in Science Communication and draws on the existing expertise of the team that delivers UWE’s popular and practical Masters in Science Communication. It has been designed to provide professional development in the field of Science Communication. Application deadline: 21 December 2009.
