Each year we send over 300 individuals to 15 countries around the world.
The programme offers academic year placements helping teach English in primary and secondary institutions and occasionally in teacher training colleges and universities.
English Language Assistants help students develop their language skills by delivering a range of activities in a fun and informative way. Assistants are expected to talk about themselves and where they come from, and provide ideas for the classroom that can cover anything and everything from current affairs to the latest fashion trends or sport.
In return, Assistants benefit from living and working in a different culture, gain an insight into another education system and improve their own linguistic skills. They receive an allowance to cover living costs.
We provide on-going advice and support for all candidates who apply through British Council Scotland prior to taking up the assistantship and during their time abroad.
The initial deadline of 1 December 2011 and the extended deadline of 31st January have now passed and we are currently processing the applications that we have received.
The deadline has been extended to 28 February 2012 for the following countries only:
Austria (full length and first semester placements ONLY) and Spain
The deadline for the following countries has not been extended and we are unable to accept late applications:
Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America and Switzerland (French and German-speaking)
The deadline for China (open to final year students and graduates only) is 28 February 2012.
