The MRC is a publicly-funded organisation dedicated to improving human health. They support international collaborations enabling UK researchers to increase their experience by working overseas, and also promote the UK as partner of choice for overseas researchers. The MRC have signed up to the European Heads of Research Councils (EuroHORCS) Money Follows Researcher Scheme. The scheme allows researchers funded by an MRC grant to continue their funded research upon moving to another participating EU country. The MRC funds a range of fellowship award schemes for both clinical and non-clinical researchers. All the MRC fellowships allow the fellow to work overseas, but for a limited period of time.
The ESF is an association of 77 member organisations devoted to scientific research in 30 European countries. The ESF fund Exploratory Workshops aimed at helping European research teams to exchange knowledge and establish new links Research Network Programmes (RNP) in Medical Sciences lay the foundation for nationally funded research groups to address major scientific and research infrastructure issues.
The Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. It awards Research Travel grants for short-term visits for collaborative research and networking. Flexible Travel awards provide opportunities for mobility and collaboration. The trust runs a number of grant schemes to encourage academic study in the history of medicine. Programme grants provide support for long-term research and Project grants provide funding for discrete and focused research projects.
Under its ‘Cooperation’ programme, the theme ‘health’ touches upon the medical sciences. Research proposals in this area must involve some trans-national cooperation throughout the EU and beyond.
The Society is a registered Charity and acts as a forum for those concerned with research and education in the anatomical sciences.Their Senior Visiting Fellowship scheme contributes towards the travel and living expenses of a senior overseas scientist making a visit to the UK or Ireland to engage in collaborative research.
The DRWF is an independent, autonomous charity, working for the benefit of people within the UK. Internationally DRWF exists as a non-profit organisation in the USA and in France, under the name, Association pour la recherche sur le diabète. It funds Research Fellowships for research related to causes, cures or complications of diabetes.
The purpose of the programme is to promote the mobility of European researchers towards the Chinese research and development area. The STF China is the pilot phase of a European Community action offering fellowship positions in China.
The Academy of Medical Sciences is a registered charity. It promotes advances in medical science and campaigns to ensure these are translated into health care benefits for society. Their UK/Middle East Travel Fellowship scheme developed in partnership with the Daniel Turnberg Trust Fund provides opportunities for short-term exchange of medical researchers between the UK and the Middle East, offering researchers the chance to gain further research experience, learn new techniques and foster scientific collaboration.
