How does it work?

The purpose of INYS is to hold short conferences in specific research areas and to support the creation of subsequent links and collaboration.

The events can be held in any area of research, covering all subjects of science, technology and engineering and including social sciences and arts humanities. As long as the subject is research based and is identified as a priority for both the UK research Councils and the partner's national government.

The events are held in partnership between leading national institutions and are supported through our local British Council office. They are usually held in the country where the partner is based, though they can be held in the UK.

The events are coordinated by a UK and local scientist who should be acknowledged leaders in their fields.

Our contribution is roughly half of the overall cost of the workshop, the partner institutions supplying the other half or financially in kind.

WHO CAN TAKE PART?
The events are aimed at bringing early career researchers from the UK and an equal number of local researchers from the partner country together to share ideas and knowledge and to build research links. The ideal number of participants is between 15 - 20 researchers from each country.

INYS is specifically aimed at postdoctoral researchers who have up to ten years postdoctoral experience. We want to concentrate on creating new links rather than furthering already established collaborations.
The conferences are also open to PhD students who are moving into postdoctoral fellowships.

Normally there will be a call for participants generated by the events coordinators once the event has been finalised. They will either hold an open call for researchers to apply to attend or they will invite the leading national departments in the research field to nominate participants.

The events should have participants representing as many of the leading national institutions within the event subject as possible. This is to ensure the widest possible opportunities for the young researchers to meet and discuss ideas with their leading opposite numbers.
