The Russian President’s Management Training Initiative (RPMTI) aims
to foster closer commercial ties between British and Russian companies
and provide essential support to middle and senior Russian managers committed
to developing Russia’s enterprise sector.
The programme is funded by the British Government's Department for International Development (DFID) and the Federal Commission of the Russian Government. It is managed on their behalf by British Council. The programme was conceived at the G7 summit when President Yeltsin appealed for support in the development of Russia’s market economy. Since its inception in 1998, RPMTI has attracted over 400 UK-registered companies including BP Amoco, IBM UK, British Nuclear Fuels Limited, Boots, New Holland and London Gatwick Airport, with 580 Russian managers successfully completing commercial attachments in the UK. Following the great success of the RPMTI project, The British Council is pleased to announce the start of RPMTI Phase II which will run until May 2004. Under phase II, a further 300 Russian managers will benefit from the programme and as such we are inviting further forward-looking UK-registered companies to take part in this prestigious programme. How
can your company benefit? How can your company benefit?
There are a range of potential benefits for participating UK companies
:
Russian candidate selection. Middle and senior managers, aged 25-40, are selected from a competitive Russia-wide management training programme. All managers are interviewed by the British Council project team to ensure candidates are of a consistently high calibre, have very good English language skills and are in a position to act as change agents on their return to the Russian Federation. Format of the project. Prior to travelling to the UK, Russian managers will have completed ‘The President’s Management Training Initiative course’ in Russia. The course involves at least six months of formal Management and English language training within an accredited Russian training institute. This is followed by a 3 week attachment in the UK. The attachment commences with an intensive 3-day management training course at a UK University (either Manchester Business School or the University of Central Lancashire Business School) followed by a 2-week work attachment with a UK host company. The attachment concludes with a debriefing by the British Council and the relevant business school. Work attachments. The British Council identifies UK companies willing to offer work attachments of 2 weeks, ensuring that those accepted onto the programme are matched as closely as possible to the professional field and industrial sector of hosting British companies. A rolling intake of candidates ensures that the timing of work attachments is flexible and meets the requirements of the host companies. Cost. Participation in RPMTI is at no direct cost to UK companies. All managers are provided with air tickets and visa, funded by the Russian Government, a subsistence allowance for accommodation, meals and incidental expenses, and travel in the UK, funded by the British Government. Under RPMTI, UK-registered companies of any size are eligible to host managers. UK companies may recommend a Russian manager already known to them, subject to agreement from the British Council and its Russian Government partners.
