Internationalising Higher Education

A convergence of higher education systems across the world has resulted in increasing globalisation, and an understanding of the implications is essential for policy makers, higher education leaders, researchers and academics.

The British Council’s project aims to provide analysis and advice on international higher education trends. The British Council will collaboratively work with its partner in Romania and other EU countries to support internationalisation within the higher education sector.

Going Global 2012

Going Global was a series of international educational conferences hosted by the British Council. It offered an open forum for policy makers and practitioners from around the world to discuss issues facing the international education community.

Since its inception in 2004, Going Global has grown from a bi-annual event in the UK to an annual event that alternates between the UK and a different international location. Each year it attracts over 1000 delegates from across the further and higher education sectors and a variety of other industries with perspectives on international education.

Going Global 2012 took place in the UK at QEII Conference London betweeen 13  and 15 March 2012.

Employability in Higher Education

Who Cares and Who Dares–a Student Policy Forum

The British Council Romania in collaboration with Link Education And Practice (LEAP) launched the Student Policy Forum on 23 and 24 February 2012 at Howard-Johnson Hotel in Bucharest. Students and career consultants, academics, employers and higher education institution leaders alongside with experts and decision makers, from Romania and the UK were invited to participate in discussion sessions about the current economic context, employability and education policies within the Higher Education environment.

The Student Policy Forum series of conferences was organised in partnership with NGOs students and associations from Romania under Global Policy Dialogue strand of the British Council project Internationalizing Higher Education. The first event of the Student Policy Forum series was delivered under the title Employability in Higher Education: Who Cares and Who Dares and one of its objectives was to identify both students and employers’ perspectives and expectations regarding the Romanian Higher Education system.

The first day of the forum was dedicated to deepen the understanding of the strategies developed by both public and private Higher Education institutions in the UK to improve their graduates’ employability comparing to the practices from Romania.
The second day brought dynamic discussions within a World Cafe session as well as success-stories sharing meant to inspire concrete actions.
