As a student, you will have access to a wide range of facilities, including free Knowledge and Learning Services membership, Internet access,and information on all arts events. We keep all our students up to date with our Teaching Centre events.

What type of course do I need?

If you want to take a Cambridge exam to obtain an internationally recognised qualification we offer exam preparation courses for the Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency exams, as well as IELTS and ILEC (legal English). We can also offer advice and help if you are interested in other Cambridge exams.

If you are just interested in improving your English we offer general English classes for beginners up.

If you want to improve your English for business or work purposes, choose a business English class (business courses start at intermediate level).

Which level am I?

During registration you will do a written test and an interview. We will then recommend a class at the correct level

How do I register for a British Council course?

If you are a new student and you want to register for a course you need to:come in person to the British Council within the registration period and to take a written placement test (1 hour), followed by an 5-minute interview with one of our teachers. Tests start every half an hour. The teacher will recommend the most suitable course for you. The placement test is free of charge.

If you want a place on one of the groups, you have to pay the course fee. The testing and registration process should take between one and two hours.

When can I study?
We run courses in three regular terms of 12 weeks each: Autumn term, Winter term, Spring term and two intensive summer terms of 3 weeks each. A choice from a variety of days and times is available for our courses. Classes start at 09.15, 11.00, 14.15, 16.00, 17.45 and 19.30. Not all options are available for all levels. Each course is 36 hours long with 2 lessons of 1.5 hours every week. There are a small number of Saturday courses. These are also 36 hours long, but have 1 lesson of 3 hours on either Saturday morning or Saturday afternoon.
How much does a course cost and how do I pay for it?

You can pay in cash (lei), credit/debit card, or bank transfer.

The fee includes all tuition and course materials, but not coursebooks, which you have to buy separately. Depending on the level, the fees for the coursebooks may vary between 45 and 160 RON.

How many students are there in a class?
To ensure effective learning we have no more than 16 students in a class.
Can I withdraw from the course?

If a student wishes to withdraw from the course, due to altered circumstances, the following rules will be applied:

If you inform the customer services team in writing, 24 hours before your first lesson, we will be able to refund you the full course fee, minus an administrative charge of 10%.
If you inform the customer services team in writing, during the first 3 weeks of the term, you will get a credit or a refund of the fee paid less the cost of lessons taught and a 25% administration fee.
Credits and refunds are not permitted after the end of the third week of the term.

In exceptional circumstances (e.g. serious illness) you can apply for a refund to the Director English Language Services.  You must include documentation to support your claim.  The Director will make a decision on a case by case basis.  The Director’s decision is final.

British Council reserves the right to cancel any course if there are not enough students registered.  In such cases, we will refund the full amount paid.

Please note that we do not offer refunds on course books.
