Online databases with remote access

You can access a whole range of Internet resources in the Centre or from any location, (using an Athens account). Login to Athens here

 

Access to the virtual library

Any member is entitled to take up a virtual library membership with remote access. Subscribers will receive by email a unique username and password in order to access their personal account on the Athens portal. Details on how to become a member at phone 0264 594408 or by email.

Ashridge Online Learning (VLRC)

The VLRC contains a wealth of information including an extensive collection of nearly 50 Learning Guides on a diverse range of topics, skills, competence's and techniques in management written by Ashridge faculty and presenting an excellent introduction to key subject areas. There are also regular book reviews and summaries, features on the economic trends within particular industries and reviews of training materials aimed at keeping managers at all levels up-to-date with the latest management thinking. Ashridge includes a collection of over 200 electronic management journals.

Computer Abstracts
Computer Abstracts provides online access to over 100,000 abstracts from the foremost journals in computer science and covers all major subject areas.
Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS)
ESDS resource archiving and disseminating large-scale government, qualitative and other social science datasets via the UK Data Archive.
Emerald

Emerald Full text: Access articles on economics, management and information science. Covers over 35,000 full text articles from 130 journals. Authors and editors can join the Literati Club, which offers a collection of resources for research. Emerald Alert: Delivers personal notification of new articles published online, ensuring that users are kept up to date with the latest research. Emerald Reviews: A library of article reviews written by specialists to give you an accurate summary of the content. The database has over 110,000 reviews dating back to 1989.

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online
Encyclopaedia Britannica is the world's most comprehensive reference product. It includes the complete Encyclopaedia, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus, Britannica Student Encyclopaedia, the Britannica Book of the Year and 118,000 articles plus illustrations, photographs, drawings, maps, and flags.
Grove Art Online

Contains 41,000 articles, 15,000 illustrations, 6082 contributions from 120 countries, and 720,000 indexed entries providing coverage of the visual arts. All the visual arts are examined: painting, architecture, sculpture, photography and the graphic and decorative arts. The text commands a global perspective with analysis of the arts in Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Pacific, as well as in Europe.

Grove Music Online

All aspects of music, with entries on composers, performers, terms, instruments & institutions, and musical works. Fully revised during the 1980s and 1990s, it now contains 29,000 articles, including new features on: 20th-century composers and performers, world music, jazz, rock, popular and light music.

Oxford English Dictionary Online

The OED is the world's leading authority on the history and development of the English language since 1150. We offer more than just a digital version of the full 20+ volume dictionary, and a very useful learning resource.

Oxford Journals

Oxford journals in: language and literature, history, law, medicine, social sciences, the arts, science and technology. You can access a rich collection of full-text articles ranging from communication theory to ecology, from economic geography to bioinformatics, or aesthetics.

Oxford Reference Online

A reference tool that accesses some 100+ Oxford University Press reference books. A single search will browse all of them. It also comprises: World Encyclopedia, Dictionary of Islam, Dictionary of English Folklore, bi-lingual dictionaries.

Thomson Gale Databases

Online reference and periodical resources, such as InfoTrac (including Onefile/Newspapers), Gale Virtual Reference Library (eBooks), The Times Digital Archive, ECCO and Resource Centers. A collection of 940 journals, 450 of these in full text and the remainder as tables of contents. British and international journals and newspapers that cover almost any subject. Articles cand be printed out or downloaded in various formats or can be sent to an email address.
