With more than 75 years of experience, the British Council is a world authority on English language teaching. From complete beginners to more advanced students, our highly-qualified teachers and unique communicative teaching method can help you to improve your English skills.
Our general English courses for adult students (18 years old and above) progress through 7 main levels, from the Foundation level, for people with no language or literacy skills in English, to Advanced level.
Each level consists of four sub-levels (except foundation level). All courses are 30-hours in length, and are mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Whatever level you are starting from, we have a course to suit your needs.
We will ask you to take a placement test when you start, to determine which level is appropriate for you.
Our experienced and dedicated teachers deliver courses that are lively and engaging. We have developed our own dynamic, communicative teaching method, based on years of experience, which has enabled tens of thousands of students to achieve their language goals.
We focus on the core skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing using classroom activities that reflect real-life and are supported by the latest technology. We also encourage you to develop your language skills outside the classroom by using our online and other resources.
Our courses will challenge you, but we will also give you all the support you need, including individual counselling sessions to reflect on your progress.
Our general courses are 30 hours, spread over ten weeks, or a five week intensive programme. (During the summer months, courses are usually spread over four-five weeks.)
All classes take place at the British Council building in Al Saad.

All our general English courses cost QAR 2,300. You will also need to take a placement test which costs QAR 50.
