In English; the Newsletter and the Journal
The In English magazine was originally launched in December 1979 under the name of the Newsletter. It then became the Journal, and in Autumn 2002 took on a new look and a new name - In English. In Spring 2008 it first experimented with being an online magazine.
In 2011 the magazine became In English Digital. There are three main reasons for the transformation:
- It’s more environmentally friendly – articles are available in pdf format, which can be read online, downloaded and filed away to be read at a later date, or printed off. This reduces paper used, and fuel in transporting copies around the globe.
- We can more easily address issues across the Lusophone world of English teachers, with articles, comments and observations being made by teachers of English in Portuguese speaking countries across the world joining together in a single, shared resource.
- We can reach a wider audience - In English, which started life as a joint venture with the Direções Gerais do Ensino Básico e Ensino Secundário and was mainly directed at state school teachers of English in Portugal, now has a readership from such diverse countries beyond the Lusophone world, including other parts of South America and the UK. Online access allows more teachers to enjoy the articles and try out the practical ideas.
