Event: “Leadership in Community Development” First Training Module  

Date: 1 July 2009   

Location:   Talitha Kumi – Beit Jala

As part of our ‘Leadership in community development’ regional project; in partnership with ‘Ma’an Development Centre’ and ‘Save the Children- USA’, we will be launching the first training module of the project on 1st of July. The training will focus on ‘Appreciative Inquiry’ methods and leadership training. The thirty participants have been selected after taking part in various activities on a selection day on in June.

Event: British College Representative visits Palestine

John Vaughan, Director Edge Hill Business School will be visiting Ramallah Technical College for Girls and Al Arroub College – Hebron; being prospective partner colleges as part of our ‘Skills for Employability’ global project.

The ‘Skills for Employability’ programme that builds the skills of people so they are able to work and compete in today’s globalised world. It does this by encouraging closer links between education and industry with a focus on strengthening the technical and vocational education and training sector.

Event: International Meeting Point in UK   

Date: 7 & 8 July 2009

Location:  London – UK

As part of our global project “Cultural Leadership International” which aims to support the emergence, of a diverse and strategic group of future cultural leaders, Hanan Wakeem from the Palestinian Art Court – al Hoash has been selected to attend the “International Meeting Point” in London.   The 2-day event brings together 70 young cultural leaders from countries across the world and includes case studies, action learning sets, collaborative project planning, networking reception and panel discussion with famous cultural leaders including Ahdaf Soueif.

During the Summer Reading Challenge; Children borrow and read up to six books, collecting stickers for each book they read. At the end of the summer they get a certificate recording their achievement, and a medal if they have completed the challenge. the Challenge isn’t about children reading as many books as they can; it’s about them enjoying what they read, discovering more about books, knowing how to find the books they want to read, and sharing ‘reading time’ with parents and carers, library staff, teachers and peers.  As children borrow books different sets of stickers can be handed out as extra incentives and can

Event:  Call for applications: 31st Cambridge Seminar on Contemporary Literature

Our Literature Department in the UK welcomes applications to the 31st Cambridge Seminar on Contemporary Literature, which has influenced discussion, performance and debate of literature for over 30 years. The programme for 2009 will feature well-known - as well as innovatory and new names, including novelists, poets and critics. Participants, who come from many countries, have opportunities to meet and hear a wide range of writers from Britain, as well as take part in discussions about a range of literary trends and issues. In bringing together the insight and experiences of writers and participants in a strongly international context, the Cambridge Seminar offers an unrivalled literary experience in the relaxed surroundings of a Cambridge University College.  The target group for the Seminar is anyone who is professionally engaged with literature, including: writers, translators, academics, literary editors and critics, teachers, librarians, broadcasters, literary venue administrators and festival programmers. Good spoken English is essential: participants will get most from the Seminar if they enjoy and contribute to the discussion and interchange it fosters.The event is fully residential, and we will cover the airfare and seminar costs (this shall include registration, the programme of events, accommodation, meals and other seminar - related activities).The seminar runs from Saturday 11until Friday 17 July 2009.  Deadline for online registration is 15 June 2009. Event: The Fifth Curator’ – International Curatorial Competition    

Application Deadline: Friday 4 September at 14:00 hours

We are launching an innovative programme to find an international curator to select its final exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in London.  The Fifth Curator competition is a unique new opportunity for an aspiring curator to select an exhibition of works from the British Council Collection. We are looking for someone who is based permanently outside the UK, who believes he/she has the passion and knowledge to be a leading curator. The winning curator will be given unlimited access to the Collection, which includes over 8500 key works of British art and the resulting exhibition will be shown at the prestigious Whitechapel in the vibrant East end of London in April 2010.
