Nowadays everyone who does not work for themselves has a 'line manager'.  Before they were usually called 'the boss' or 'my immediate boss' but now they are 'line managers' and perhaps their jobs are better or differently defined.

In this article you can:

read an advertisement for a course in 'managing people' and find out the basic skills involved and check your comprehension
listen to a manager giving his views and experience and check your comprehension
work with an email applying for a place on a course
develop vocabulary useful for describing your work skills
'play the writing game' summarising the audio.  You can decide how difficult to make it.
