This test uses the six levels developed by the Council of Europe. These are the levels of the European Framework:
- Basic User: A1 and A2 (beginner)
- Independent User: B1 and B2 (intermediate)
- Proficient User: C1 and C2 (advanced)
Self-assessment is an important part of this grading system. For more information on these levels and self-assessment have a look at the Council of Europe’s website.
This English test will only provide an approximate indication of your level of English.
To get a more accurate measure of your language level you will need a thorough test of the four skills in a controlled environment. You may like to find out more about getting a certificate to demonstrate your language skills at our exams information page or by speaking to your nearest British Council office.
