Some people have to write reports regularly in their daily lives, while others only have to do it occasionally for exams.  These latter tend to find report-writing a daunting task, whereas in fact they are quite simple because they follow rules which are designed to make life as easy as possible for the reader.  Bearing that in mind will always help.
