IBERICUM

Step back in time!
Enter the ancient city and explore its wonders!
Now re-opened after major new excavations and extensive restoration
▪ Declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 ▪

Ancient city – enter the city of Ibericum through its magnificent gates and walk along ancient paved streets just as its citizens did two thousand years ago. Step inside any of five restored houses to see life as it was in those times. You can see and talk to people dressed in period costume going about their daily business.

Amphitheatre- at the far end of the city is the amphitheatre, where Ibericians spent important feast days attending traditional sports events. You can experience the re-enactment of a traditional Iberician tournament and see games as they would have been played. Audience participation welcome!

Forum and temple – walk under ancient colonnades and see where traditional religious ceremonies were performed. Marvel at the well-preserved mosaic flooring of the inner sanctum, and see the largest original frescos in Europe.

Baths – take time to relax and participate in centuries-old cleansing rituals. Ibericum’s baths still come from underground springs that provide warm, mineral-rich waters which help purify the skin. Try a traditional water cure or deep massage with herbal oils.
………………………………………........................................................................................
Guides- we can provide group tours of the city (minimum 10 people) with English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese or Japanese-speaking guides, or you can choose the individual tour with headphones and running commentary in 15 different languages. There is also a short, 20-minute introductory film giving the visitor an introduction to the city.

NEW!  We now offer a virtual tour of the city. We have only restored a few of the buildings, due to the need for future excavation, but using a cyber helmet you can experience the entire city as it would have been, including sounds and smells, and interact with people of that time.

Disabled access – the city is fully accessible for wheelchairs. Braille guides, audio-touch systems and a sign language interpreter are also available.

Children- we have a soft play area for the under 6s which is fully supervised. Alternatively, leave your kids in the hands of our children’s play leaders who will engage them in a range of fun activities which give them a child’s-eye view of the city.

Restaurant/café – our varied menu includes several traditional Ibericum dishes. It is also possible to reserve our restaurant for an authentic Ibericum nine-course banquet.

Opening times – April-October 0830- 1800  October-March 0930- 1700 (except Christmas and Easter)
Prices – £8.00 Adults £3.00 Children (under 4 & over 65 free). Reductions for educational visits. Teachers free.  Season tickets and membership scheme also available on request
