Chelsea 1 v 1 Wigan

Mickey Butt (Chelsea fan)

This 1 – 1 draw was a very disappointing result for Chelsea but they can have few complaints.  Apart from a few chances on goal, Chelsea once again really struggled to create any decent moves in the first half. Although they had a lot of possession nobody played any passes to open up the Wigan defence or even try and take a player on. The second half saw the introduction of Joe Cole who immediately started to cause Wigan problems and unsettle the defence. Chelsea took the lead with Anelka shielding the ball and laying it off for Essien to score from just inside the penalty area. Chelsea created more chances after that but failed to score. They paid for not taking their chances as Wigan equalised in the 92 minute. As they say, mathematically Chelsea can still win the Premiership, but realistically Manchester United are not going to slip up now.
