Deputy Customer Services Manager
British Council, Porto

The British Council is looking for an experienced customer service professional to lead a small team in its Porto office.  The ideal candidate will have:

  • at least three years experience of working in a customer services role working directly with the public
  • a positive, cheerful and friendly outlook
  • proven experience of managing a team
  • fluent Portuguese
  • English language competency, written and spoken, to minimum CEF B2 level or IELTS band 6

In addition, the following attributes would be a plus: familiarity with using SAP and financial skills, especially related to processing and recording payments.

The remuneration package of this post starts at EUR 1,398.62 monthly (Christmas and leave subsidies in line with Portuguese law) plus daily meal allowance EUR 7.34 plus medical insurance package.

Teachers of English as a Foreign Language
Greater Lisbon

We build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and other countries and increase appreciation of the UK’s creative ideas and achievements. In Portugal, the British Council undertakes a wide variety of cultural activities and exchanges and manages a large examinations programme as well as running teaching centres in Lisbon, Coimbra and Oporto.

We wish to appoint teachers of English as a foreign language for January in the Greater Lisbon area. The post holders will teach young learners (between the ages of 6 and 18) and/or adults.

Our minimum requirements are:

  • Full mastery of English across all four skills equivalent to CEFR C2/IELTS Band 9
  • First degree or equivalent
  • TEFL-I (Recognised certificate-level qualification)
  • Two years full relevant English language teaching experience

Exams marshals and invigilators
We occasionally recruit hourly-paid staff to supervise exams (invigilators) and to direct people around the system on exam days (marshals).

You must:

be over age 18
have completed compulsory education
hold at least an FCE certificate
be available to work on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (all day)
attend a two-hour training session which will be held sometime before the relevant exam session
