BUSINESS AND LEGAL ENGLISH COURSES

British Council Porto offers two types of Business English course: tailor-made Business English courses for you or your company at the premises of your choice; and General Business or Legal English public courses which are run at British Council premises in Rua do Breiner. Both kinds of course will help you to use English in a realistic working context, as well as improve your accuracy in grammar and pronunciation and develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The courses are suitable for people working in a business context, those who hope to work in business in the future and those who wish to gain a Business English qualification. The courses are designed to meet participants’ needs and interests and can cover a selection from the following areas:

  • using the telephone
  • writing letters, reports, faxes and memos
  • describing job responsibilities and company organisation
  • socialising, travel and conferences
  • business issues, management and personnel meetings
  • presenting and describing products and services
  • describing trends, company performance and results
  • negotiating and selling
  • marketing and advertising

Our courses at Rua do Breiner are available at intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2) and advanced (C1) levels and run from September to June. The topic areas are similar for each level but a greater range of linguistic knowledge and degree of skill are developed as you progress through the levels.

Should you wish to enrol for the BEC exams (Preliminary, Vantage e Higher), these courses also help you prepare.

We also offer General Legal English courses at upper-intermediate level (B2) and above.

Lessons are once a week for 3 hours (Wednesdays 1900 – 2200). All public course participants are required to do a free-placement test before enrolling for a course.

For in-company courses, the course schedule can be organised at your convenience and a placement test and needs analysis will be arranged.
