ENGLISH COURSES FOR ADULTS

When and Where
Courses for adults run for one academic year from the end of September to mid June.
Classes are timetabled in the evening for all levels.

Course Content
We provide courses for all levels of English and respond to the particular language needs and personal objectives of our students.

Classes are taught in English so that you can have maximum contact with the spoken language.

Approach and methodology
We know that you have clear and well defined expectations about our classes.

When registering for courses you will be asked to take a diagnostic entrance test which permits us not only to assess your language needs but also to understand your aims and objectives and in this way to decide which course would be best for you.

In our classes we stimulate your use of the language and develop your confidence, by putting your learning into a contemporary, and relevant context, and using a highly communicative methodology, emphasising oral communication. This is combined with work that will develop the four essential skills and language learning: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Each level has a course book and supplementary material provided by us, carefully chosen to provide interesting material and appropriate learning support. You will have a wide variety of resources at your disposal including the library, computer room, and self-access computers, which will help to make your learning entertaining and motivating.

Our centre in Coimbra has two Senior Teachers, one of whom is responsible for the supervision of the adult courses. This ensures that pedagogical standards are adhered to and guarantees that you have the best environment for fruitful and enjoyable learning.

The maximum class size is 16 and classes are twice a week.

Assessment
Assessment is continuous, including written and oral work done throughout the year, home work and test results; all these make up the final mark at the end of the year.

At the end of each term you will meet with your teacher and receive a report form which indicates your ability and results in the various aspects of assessment. At the end of the academic year you can request a certificate to show that you have successfully completed that level.

International qualifications
Our level system and the certification for each level indicate where this is mapped on the Council of Europe framework.

Our English courses provide a thorough and structured preparation for Cambridge ESOL exams, given that our teachers are all trained and experienced in preparing for and administering these exams .

The diplomas obtained through these exams are extremely valuable for academic and professional career development as they are recognised by academic institutions and employers all over the world.
